The problem
ActiveAdmin’s default theme looks dated and is hard to restyle incrementally without fighting its existing CSS structure.
The solution
Rebuilt the stylesheet layer as a self-contained theme gem that overrides ActiveAdmin’s default assets, so teams can adopt it by adding a gem and a single configuration line.
Architecture
Ships as a Rails engine that injects its stylesheet after ActiveAdmin’s defaults in the asset pipeline, keeping all existing resource DSL and controllers untouched.
Results
- Adopted across multiple internal admin panels with no controller changes
- Cut admin-panel UI polish time from days to under an hour per project
